Community Engagement
The Lexington Art League firmly believes in art for everyone. To that end, the 55-year-old organization has produced community engagement programs and participated in community-cultivating projects that encourage participation in the visual arts.
In addition to free lectures and tours, free educational programs and workshops, and free art fairs that bring art to crowds in the tens of thousands (American Founders Bank Woodland Art Fair and Francisco's Farm), LAL frequently partners with community organizations to provide visual art opportunities that promote awareness, healing, expression, and unity. As the community has evolved, so have the engagement activities of LAL. To view previous engagement programs, please click here. Castlewood Fun CampsAt the heart of Lexington's Castlewood neighborhood, LAL is committed to supporting its local community. As such, LAL provides art education to participants in the Castlewood Community Center Summer Fun Camps.
Common Good
Since the summer of 2012, LAL has partnered with Common Good to provide art classes to school-aged children living in the Castlewood, North Limestone, and East End neighborhoods of Lexington. Through a wide variety of media, both traditional and experimental, students explore contemporary art concepts presented by artists in LAL exhibitions.
