Dovetail Shop & Studio is the collaboration of Margaret & Josh Smith. Dovetail Studio is dedicated to making hand-made, high quality goods that have good design as a top priority.

All of our ceramic ware is designed, constructed, fired and screen-printed at home at Dovetail Studio. We begin with high quality moist porcelain clay and fashion it into the pieces you see here. Each piece is handled numerous times during the process of creating, glazing and adding the screen-printed imagery. In fact most pieces are fired in our kiln no less than three times in order to achieve the final product. All of our ceramic ware is high-fired, vitrified porcelain, food safe and durable for everyday use.

Being an artist is the most challenging thing I could do vs. It was something that was fun and came natural.

Interested in modernism, like modernist shapes and a modernist aesthetic, but a little more loose.

We hatched a collaborative vision of work that we haven’t seen out there but that we would like to see, so we worked on making it come to a reality.

It’s much more satisfying to make it by hand.
