LAL POSITION OPENINGS:
Lexington Art League Development Director
The Lexington Art League (LAL) is Lexington's oldest and largest visual arts organization. LAL envisions visual art as the lens through which central Kentucky will distinguish itself as a progressive, inclusive and vibrant region. LAL presents original and creative programs, with a reputation for thought-provoking content, that illuminate the role of visual art in contemporary life.
Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the Development Director plans and executes a comprehensive development and stewardship program for the LAL. The director advises and assists the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development Cabinet and volunteer leadership, as necessary and appropriate, in carrying out their resource development responsibilities. The director coordinates with the Marketing Director and Exhibitions & Programs Director to ensure that development plans and benefits are integrated with marketing and programming plans to accomplish the strategic goals of LAL. The Development Director serves as the chief liaison to the Board Development Cabinet.

Functions:
In concert with Executive Director and Development Cabinet:
- Detailed annual and long-range plans of action for all programs designed to increase development income and number of donors, including budgets that support their implementation.
- Research and data compilation on potential individual, corporate and foundation donors identified by board members, staff, and volunteers.
- Cultivation programs for major gift donors (Annual Fund, Endowment and Planned Giving).
- Preparation of all content and materials needed for sponsorship solicitation, direct mail letters, gift recognition and acknowledgement materials.
- Compliance with select grants, sponsor and donor directives.
- Planning and management of special events, including the annual Art Fever or similar fundraising event(s).
- Initiation of a Planned Giving program.
- Regular communication plan for donors, sponsors and prospective donors.
- Represent LAL in appropriate public presentations to various businesses and community organizations.
- Design and supervision of all donor data and records management system(s) for tracking donor participation, identification and cultivation of prospects, and volunteer involvement in programs.
- Oversee training and supervision of volunteers, their activities, and database.
- Special development projects and events as assigned.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on current development trends, laws, practices and procedures in the not-for-profit sector and initiate appropriate new practices for LAL.
Collaboration and Supervision:
- Support Development Cabinet to achieve LAL strategic plan goals.
- Ensure all approved benefits are executed and delivered to donors and sponsors.
- Collaborate with Exhibitions & Programs Director and Marketing Director to ensure integration of development plans and needs in organizational programming and marketing.
- Supervise Visitor & Events Coordinator who is responsible for front –of-house, special event execution, donor data maintenance, donor acknowledgement, visitor interaction and tracking.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree.
- Minimum of three years of related development experience.
- Experience in several facets of development, preferably as a generalist, coupled with a demonstrated record of success.
- Knowledge of fundraising software.

- Self-motivated initiator with genuine enthusiasm for the role that visual art can plan in a vibrant community.
- Ability to inspire the best in Board Members, Development Cabinet members and other volunteers who aid LAL fundraising and special event programs.
- Ability to collaborate and lead as well as follow
- Professional, self-confident, and able to perform well under pressure.
- Multiple project management capability.
- High degree of creativity with regard to fund development activities.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
