The Untold Benefits of Brushing and Flossing
Robby Varillas
The Untold Benefits of Brushing and Flossing is a series of experimental video works that explores the interaction of digital video and analogue printmaking techniques. Through dreamlike vignettes that emphasize atmosphere, texture, and experimental techniques we aim to ask one simple question: how different would your life be if you brushed twice a day and flossed once a day?
The digital is the ideal, there are so many tools available now that allow you to achieve near perfection digitally. When you translate that work through a physical process, in this case, the risograph printing process-- the piece transforms, mutates, and becomes something else entirely. The inherent imperfection adds texture and warmth to "cold" digital works. This exhibition explores the translation process and revels in the mistakes and imperfections that arise when the physical and digital interact.
