The Lexington Art League has hosted ‘The Nude’ annual exhibition for most of the past 35 years. It has grown to be one of the most anticipated annual exhibitions in Lexington. With the redefining and a return to its founding mission, to ‘create opportunities for Lexington area artists and those who appreciate their work,’ the Lexington Art League is proud to present The Nude as a biennial showcasing contemporary nude figurative art by Kentucky artists.
Guest Jurors
Jack Girard - Jack Girard is Professor Emeritus at Transylvania University, in Lexington, KY, USA, where he taught multi-level drawing, painting, printmaking, and upper-level all-media studios, along with periodic travel courses to Ireland and New York City. Mr. Girard’s paintings and collage/mixed media drawings have been extensively exhibited in the United States and overseas, and are represented in many corporate, institutional, and private collections. Additionally, he has co-authored numerous articles with Dr. Veronica Dean-Thacker on the works of Spanish writer-artists Alexandra Dominguez, Juan Carlos Mestre, Ferdinand Lorca, and Asencio Saez Garcia.
Thomas Tolliver - For Thomas Tolliver, a funny thing happened on the way to mortuary school. In short, he never got there, instead choosing journalism as a career path rather than mortuary science. Thus, after graduating college, it was journalism that brought this native West Virginian to Lexington where he worked for 16 years writing news stories at the Lexington Herald-Leader. While on a medical leave from the newspaper, he answered a personal want-ad and began modeling for drawing classes, first at the University of Kentucky and subsequently at venues all over Lexington. A physical fitness enthusiast at heart, Thomas’ muscular physique made him a popular draw within nude modeling circles. Now, with both newspapers and modeling behind him, Thomas spends his time gardening and tinkering with his historic but decrepit house in downtown Lexington, which sits across the street from not one but two funeral homes.
