Origins & Excavations
Amanda Bridges
Artist Statement: The body of work for Origins & Excavations explores the connection between family of origin and individual voice. All women are born with a foundation of ancestral knowledge, a maternal encoding that is passed down through the generations. Much like the Akashic Records, it holds the histories and experiences of all the mothers before us: hopes, dreams, love, loss, rage, repression. All of these experiences are part of who we are before we even begin to add our own voice to the conversation. It’s a commitment to ourselves to interpret those legacies and determine who we are and how we choose to live our lives.
Artist Bio: I am a mixed-media artist based in Lexington, Kentucky. I work intuitively to create art that translates personal, complex internal dialogues into visual statements. My work is best described as organic, tactile and instinctive. I have a BFA from Western Kentucky University and am a juried member of the Kentucky Crafted Program and the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen.
