Crimson Duvall: In Darkness She Blossoms
July-August 2019

Artist Statement

Love, hate, victory, loss, elation, despair, pain, pleasure, horror, peace, life and death are the ebb and flow of consciousness. All of these experiences, thoughts and emotions shape and form the person we are at the present moment. When our stories intertwine, a new chapter begins. Some tales can be exemplified and passed down generation to generation and some tales can be held so deeply, that they are forgotten. These personal, family and collective narratives define our cores and everyone shares their story uniquely.

These pieces are part of my story.

My tale, you may find, is sometimes clear, light and funny—sometimes disjointed, dark and sad. These can happen independently or simultaneously. But, hey that’s life. I have found that in sharing my narrative I can connect with others and we can feel less alone, even if only for a moment. I have also discovered something that has always been true--that pain is an opportunity for growth and that even in darkness I can bloom.
