Joyride
Damon Farmer
Artist Statement: These paintings reflect my interest in things mechanical, whimsical and fantastical. Most are narrative, illustrating stories from an imagined reality with images of implausible activities, anthropomorphized animals, and contraptions of dubious practicality. Viewers may be inspired to explore the possibilities that exist at the intersection of art, technology and nature, but my ultimate goal is to prompt a smile. I strive for paintings that convey a sense of wonder and enchantment in the hope that viewers share the joy I experience in creating them.
Artist Bio: Damon is a lifelong Kentucky resident, except for the couple of years he served in the US Army, during 1970-72. Since receiving a degree in art at Berea College in 1975 he has worked as Shadetree Studio, primarily as a professional sand sculptor. He has traveled the world for over thirty years for commissions and competitions and has been the world champion of that art form. He has painted for over fifty years, and also works in a variety of other media, including cel and computer animation, theatrical set design/production, public art projects, murals, and various other art undertakings. Although he has an annual mural project in Italy, his paintings are mainly seen in group and solo shows statewide. He and his wife, Beth Kirchner, live in rural Woodford County.
