INTERSTRUCT was a multi-venue, site-specific exhibition of art in non-art spaces throughout Lexington.
Lexington Art League invited collaborative artist groups and individual artists to create new works in response to a specific location, considering architecture, history, place, and other contextual information to redefine the space through art. With a focus on experimentation and transformation, the works presented will activate space and offer transportive experiences for all who move through them. |
INTERSTRUCT Closing Reception
Dec.12, 6p-9p, Loudoun House
The INTERSTRUCT series of art in non-art spaces journeyed from the historic Pope Villa to Lexington's burgeoning NoLi and Distillery Districts. On Dec. 12, INTERSTRUCT came to LAL with a closing reception celebrating the work of multiple artists from around the nation and world. The reception featured a full exhibition of work by Tennessee-based artist Jason Sheridan Brown and Ohio-based artist Taryn McMahon. Both artists recently created site-specific installations for INTERSTRUCT@Distillery District, the third and final installment in the INTERSTRUCT series, which LAL previewed during November Gallery Hop. Visitors to INTERSTRUCT’s closing reception enjoyed Brown’s kinetic sculptural work addressing the coal industry in his installation “The Lost Mountain.” And McMahon combines print-making and sculptural techniques while exploring the ecology of bourbon in her piece “Raised from the Seeds Sown in Spring.”
