revel in the wonder of light...
Art Ball was a high-fashion, maximum-drama, formal black-tie gala to celebrate and preview the signature piece of LUMINOSITY, an exhibition of light-based art featuring interactive installations and photography by regional, national, and international artists.
Art Ball reveled an exclusive sneak peek at the dazzling, large-scale, interactive sculpture of light which will illuminate Triangle Park from Feb. 21-Mar. 31, 2014. LUMINOSITY is the Lexington Art League's largest exhibition in its almost six-decade history and the Art Ball will reflect this achievement with glamor and grandeur. CHECK OUT ARTICLES FROM ART BALL

about the sculpture of light...
Canadian artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett have created unique, interactive sculptures of light for major international destinations, including Calgary, Moscow, Prague, Chicago, and The Netherlands.
Featuring Brown and Garrett's stunning, innovative, and highly accessible work in the heart of downtown Lexington not only symbolizes art's power to illuminate the darkness, it puts Lexington on the map as a culturally vibrant city on par with national and international arts destinations.
Designed specifically for Lexington's Triangle Park, Brown and Garrett will continue in the vein of The Cloud and Solar Flare, celestial-inspired works that use LED lights and motion sensors to create a dancelike relationship between the sculpture and its viewers, who are invited to move freely into and around the sculpture and marvel at the sculpture's near-organic response.
The design and name of Brown and Garrett's sculpture for Lexington will be revealed at Art Ball, with attendees enjoying the first glimpse of what will be an iconic addition to the downtown cityscape in February.
After Art Ball, the sculpture will be dismantled and moved to Triangle Park. A public unveiling ceremony will be held on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. While the sculpture utilizes LED lights, the artists depend on old-fashioned, globe-like incandescent light bulbs that were collected in a community-wide light bulb drive. The inclusion of light bulbs from citizens and businesses throughout the region is an added layer of meaning and relevance to sculpture, as light bulb donors will have a direct, personal connection to the work, emphasizing the collective value of quality public art.
The Lexington Art League plans to sell the sculpture at its annual, private high-end art auction, The 20, on March 8.
