Reminiscence
Maddy the Hooligan
Artist Statement: This collection of art is all about my past. Each painting is a snippet of either an emotion or a memory of a past event that happened and has been a way for me to sort through the emotion of these events. Some of these are happy, while others represent a tragic and sad memory. All these snippets of the past come together to form this collection of artworks.
My artwork heavily reflects my mood of the time it was painted. Mental health is something I deal with daily, and painting is a great coping mechanism for me. Through this, I have a healthy way to express my emotions, and I feel my paintings show that. I can forget about my flaws and paint freely when sitting in front of my tablet screen. All my passion and feelings go into every brush stroke, and that is why my paintings can feel emotional.
I use a drawing tablet and Photoshop to create my digital paintings. Using my pen and the brush tool, I build up the layers of the painting to achieve my final product. I create my artwork as an escape and a way to express my feelings. Painting allows me to forget about my anxiety and zone out into another world, one of creativity and expression. Most of my artwork expresses how I am feeling or represents a past event. Through painting, I hope to bring peace and happiness to others.
