PRHBTN Exhibition 2016
Lexington Art League partners with prhbtn
OCT 12-14 2016
The Lexington Art League partners up with PRHBTN to celebrate the contributions of local street artists for the sixth year of this popular public art festival. “Since its inception, we have been so impressed with the work of PRHBTN and their ability to present phenomenal works created by artists locally, regional and internationally which has enlivened our visual landscape”- “That is why we were delighted when PRHBTN reached out to us to present their annual commission-free exhibition in support of local artists.” stated Stephanie Harris, Executive Director, Lexington Art League.
The mission of LAL & PRHBTN could not be more aligned for this partnership, with both entities believing that art should be accessible to all members of the community they are joining forces to strengthen the local aspect of this wildly popular annual festival. “The Lexington Art League was the most likely partner for this effort, as they not only support local artists through their on-going programs and exhibitions, they also support an international artists residency program that has resulted in several site specific art projects throughout the city and in the Loudoun House Galleries.” stated Jessica Winter, who co-founded PRHBTN with her husband John Winters.

FAITH47
Faith47 is a street and studio based artist from South Africa. She began working as a graphic designer when she was only 19. She has painted murals all across the globe and engages universal themes in her work. She fights for animal rights, stopping the destruction of the earth, bringing electricity to underdeveloped cities, and South African worker’s rights.. Although much of her work comes from her experiences in South Africa, people all around the world are able to connect with her pieces. Faith 47’s residency was generously supported by Lexington Art League, PRHBTN, LexArts, LAVA Systems/Security, as well as private donations. Faith47 painted her mural in the downtown area of Winchester Ky in an abandoned and undisclosed space. She worked with cinematographer Zane Meyer of chopemupfilms.com to create a remnant of her process and the mural to share with a wider audience. *Watch the video below. |

PRHBTN HISTORY
PRHBTN was started 6 years ago by John and Jessica Winters. Jessica was inspired by the documentary “Exit through the Gift Shop.” They decided that Lexington needed more art. What better way to bring art to Lexington, than by bringing it to the streets for all to see. They wanted to bring appreciation to an art form that has before been considered criminalized, street art. They now put on an annual festival with multiple street artist and local businesses. PRHBTN brings in all of its money through donations and sponsorship. Local businesses submit their walls that they want a mural painted on, and then the artist gets to choose what wall they would like to paint on. They bring in artists from all around the world and buy them all the supplies they need to create their masterpieces. Through PRHBTN with the help of the community, we will be able to see many more beautiful pieces of art in downtown Lexington.PRHBTN evolved out of a grassroots effort to bring street art to Lexington and is responsible for adding significant works of art to our community, The Kobra mural of Lincoln is a prime example. For years this program has existed outside of art institutions and organizations and the fact that they looked to LAL first to join in their efforts is very meaningful.
This partnership opportunity helps us to fulfill two different goals within our current strategic plan, Activation of the Loudoun House and Broadening the audience for LAL.
